Essentials for a new Baby

Having a baby can be overwhelming when you are looking at all the stuff there is to buy… but what is really essential for your baby?

For a lot of new moms, the prospect of doing some shopping is part of the fun of becoming a mom!

There is so much out there for babies and for moms, but what is really essential for your new baby?

Aside from the obvious list of things you need for baby:

  • Clothing
  • Blankets
  • Diapers (disposable or cloth)
  • Wipes
  • Bottles (if bottle feeding)

Here is a list of "Must Haves" from our moms.  While not absolutely essential, these are some items they highly recommend new moms look into getting before or when baby arrives:

  • Swaddling Blankets – Help keep baby calm and comfy for sleeping
  • A good nursing bra! – easy access to nurse and support for full breasts will be a life saver!
  • A Nursing Pillow – will help support baby when getting used to nursing
  • Scratch Mitts – newbord nails are sharp, and they can't control their little arms
  • Nipple Cream – sore nipple from learning to feed, poor latch or cluster feeds will need some soothing
  • Soothers – some babies just need to suck!
  • Sling/Baby Carrier – makes doing things around the house or out and about easier when baby wants to be close

There are tons of items on the market that you will want for your baby, some will be just for fun, some will be necessary for your sanity, some will make life more comfortable for baby.

There is no right or wrong list of what to have on hand for your baby.  Like all things with being a mom, you learn as you go and you do what is right for you and your wee one.
